V Australia to fly from Melbourne to Los Angeles

V Australia has just announced its third route, with flights between Melbourne and Los Angeles set to debut on 15 Sep 2009.

The move was announced as the carrier took delivery of its first 777-300ER in the USA, with the aircraft set to be welcomed in Sydney on Mon morning.

Virgin ceo Brett Godfrey said the 360-seat plane would offer a "fresh change", with its in-flight bars, state-of-the-art entertainment, mood lighting, and Business, Premium International and International Economy cabins.

"Even in these tough economic times passenger traffic through Melbourne has continued to grow, so stimulating the destination further with more convenient, value-for-money, freshly innovative and high quality air services can only be a good thing for all," he said.

Introductory economy class return fares went on sale today for $1199 return including taxes.
