Tourism Tasmania has made it easier for visitors to discover the island, with the recent unveiling of new holiday planners and microsites which showcase the compelling points of difference for each of the state’s five district destinations: The North West Coast; East Coast; Launceston, Tamar and the North; Western Wilderness and Hobart & Surrounds. The user-friendly web sites and new collateral offer visitors a plethora of information about the distinctive features and attractions of each destination; they highlight the best each has to offer – from the finest restaurants and farm gates for epicureans, to incredible coastal walks, award winning vineyards, luxurious alpine getaways and the blend of history with a cosmopolitan, creative hub. The microsites and online versions of the holiday planners can be accessed by clicking on the five colour-coded areas on the Tasmanian map, on the left side of the website’s homepage, www.discovertasmania.com.
The North West Coast
The North West Coast is renowned for its dramatically different coastal escapes, colourful, vibrant contrasts and delicious produce – fresh from the farm gates and sold at quaint roadside stalls and farmhouse shops. The area’s secret beaches, clear blue waters, craggy shoreline and ancient volcanic structures make it an ideal place for visitors seeking an escape from the stresses of modern life. Or discover the mystical and hauntingly beautiful surrounds of the Tarkine, with its ancient rainforests, shimmering sand dunes and mist-shrouded rivers, providing the perfect sanctuary for visitors seeking natural harmony and real experiences.
The lush agricultural landscape is picture perfect, with its weatherboard farmhouses, pretty dams and fields of vegetables and vibrant flowers, and is also a heaven for epicureans and visitors seeking a local experience with seafood farms, orchards, vineyards, whisky distilleries and cheesemakers on the mainland and King Island opening their farm doors to visitors.

It is also home to Tasmania’s award-winning coastal adventures, with the iconic walks giving visitors the wonderful experience of leaving their footprints in the sand, getting up close with native wildlife and nature, spotting majestic sea eagles, dolphins and whales, sea kayaking and ocean cruising in majestic bays, and discovering hidden coves and other treasures. The Western Wilderness

The World Heritage listed area is the place for visitors seeking a true, inspiring connection with nature – from the snow capped peaks of Cradle Mountain peering through the mist, to the ancient forests, tannin-stained rivers and rich wildlife. Unlike the West early pioneers, visitors to the region can now enjoy the spectacular wilderness in luxurious accommodation, with a host of properties offering five-star lodging, gourmet food, hot tubs, cosy log fires and pampering spa treatments. Luxury cruises also offer spectacular waterway experiences along the mystical Gordon River.
